Walking the Kymin

On October 11th we held our third annual October walk and social.
Thanks to everyone who took part. We covered a fantastic 8 mile circular route that took in the stunning autumnal colours from the viewpoint at the Kymin, Heading down to the Boat Inn at Penallt and then back along the river Wye to Monmouth.
Huge thanks to everyone who came and joined us, and to Rob and Lee for organising the route, and Tina for making sure we had everything in place to walk safely.
Our next walk will be the April annual challenge where we will walk from Gower to Tenby along the Welsh coastal path.

Milford Haven to St Davids -
smashed it!

Well - that's it - another annual April walk completed.
HUGE congratulations to everyone who took part in our big annual walk.
Over 2.5 days we completed a route of 53 miles and covered some amazing coastal landscape, took in some challenging climbs, met some new friends and familiar faces, and between everyone who took part we are on course to raise a really meaningful amount of money for the charities we support each year.
Whether joining us for parts of the journey, completing every step of the path, providing us with support, teas, coffees, welshcakes, cheering us on, or supporting through sponsoring our good causes, or providing our walkers with much needed and appreciated refreshments and mini-bus-based collections - we couldn't (and wouldn't want to) do it without you.
You an now find the details of each day of the walks on our website so you can revisit the parts you enjoyed most (sorry but the checkpoints will not be manned!).
If you'd like to join us for the first time, or meet up with the gang again soon - look out for our 2025 Autumn social.
In the meantime - it's never too late to sponsor us for the miles we have already walked!

2023 - Our First small grants
This year for the first time, we've been able to award a number of small grants to groups local to our walking route around the Gower Peninsula.
Four different groups were awarded £200 donations to go towards specific projects they have planned or items they needed for part of their day-to-day activities.
We're looking forward to catching up with everyone we donated to and grateful to everyone who took part in our April 2023 walk of the 50 mile coastline of the Gower Peninsula.
We're already looking forward to walking from Pembroke Castle to Tenby - and you can currently book your place as part of our early bird offer.

Symonds Yat - Autumn Social
This October we had another of our regular Autumn Socials. A chance for old friends and new walkers to meet up for a short walk in gorgeous surroundings, as well as to discuss the options for the big spring walk in 2025.
Tina arranged a fantastic route and some stunning weather, with a group of 15 of us completing the walk which included visits to Arthur's Cave, crossing the river on Biblins Rope Bridge and climbing up to Symonds Yat Rock after a brief but necessary stop at the pub.
The full route is available in our walks section - and we're now looking forward to planning ahead for 2025 and the Dale to St David's hike.

St George's Walk 2024
Pembroke to Tenby
What a weekend in West Wales!
We had more walkers than ever before taking part in our 3 day journey around the coastline between Pembroke and Tenby.
Huge thanks to everyone who came along and took part, walking, talking, fundraising, enjoying the sunshine and enduring some of the sharp dips and steep climbs.
It definitely wasn't an easy walk and the final stop in Tenby was a well-earned chance to reflect on the last few days.
We couldn't do the walk without the help of our support teams - manning checkpoints, keeping the water topped up, and delivering Haribo*
As we finish the fundraising we are already well on the way to £5,000 which will go to our 4 main charities, and be available for local charities along the walking route who can apply for small grants to support their work.
The next big organised walk is 12th October - see you there!
*we appreciate other sweets are available and may be the preferred choice of some walkers.

Day 1 - Completed it..
A massive well done to all our walkers on a great first day.
Starting from Pembroke Castle - where we were lucky to be allowed to pop in before opening for a group photo and a quick look around, the serious walking began at 9.00.
15 walkers joined us today.
The total walk was 22 miles - finishing at Freshwater West.
We had gorgeous sunshine for most of the afternoon, and we managed the day rain-free.
Huge thanks to The Old Point House in Angle for hosting us for a fantastic lunch and stop at midday, and to our support cars for keeping up our morale and making sure that nobody was left behind!
Fingers crossed for another great day tomorrow.
If you'd like to sponsor our efforts (so far we have raised over £3,000 this year from the walk) please check out our just giving pages.

When we met Pudsey
Earlier this year we were really lucky to get the chance to meet BOTH the walking weatherman and Pudsey bear - and all on the same day!
It was fantastic to have the opportunity to meet two members of BBC royalty and have the chance to talk about what the St George's Walk team have been up to since we were first set up in memory of Rich's Dad, Barry Bond.
Since then we've raised over £10,000, with donations going to BBC Children in Need, Help for Heroes, The Scouting Association and the RNLI, all charities that were close to Barry. We've also been able to award much-needed small grants to local organisations in the areas where we have walked.
But, all this has been a bonus, because we really started out as a group of people who like a decent walk and a chance to catch up with friends (old and new).
Three complete walks of the Gower Peninsula coastal path, two Malvern Hill excursions and a host of other walks have followed.
If you'd like to join us - then why not book tickets for a future walk? Just drop us a message on Instagram, Facebook or through the contact form here on our website and one of the team will be back in touch.

2022's Donations delivered
Thanks to all the efforts of our walkers in April we were able to distribute cheques to our four charities this month.
· Help for Heroes
· BBC Children in Need
· RNLI
· The Scouting Association
Hopefully it made the blisters and sore legs worth it for everyone who took part in the annual fundraiser as we walked the entire coastline of the Gower Peninsula.
We raised a fantastic £3,220 in total which was split equally between the four charities.

Walking the Isle of Wight
In September a few of the SGW crew walked the coastal path of the Isle of Wight.
In total it's 70 miles and we set ourselves a challenge of getting it around it in 4 days (well Dave did and pretty much root-marched everyone else along with him).
The total walk was:
- Ryde to Ventnor
- Ventnor to Freshwater
- Freshwater to Shalfleet
- Shalfleet to Ryde
Crossing wetlands, downland, alongside stunning coastal views, and a fair few stretches of country lanes that weren't that coastal to be fair, it's a stunning walk and would really recommend - more details to come once I've typed up the guide for everyone.
